Wine Spotlight – 2020 Barbera

Unlike many of the most well-known wines of Italy, Barbera is the name of a grape variety, not a place.
In Piedmont, where Barbera achieves its most profound expressions, Barolo and Barbaresco are the most recognizable names, but they are names of places as opposed to grape varieties — both are produced from the Nebbiolo variety.
Barbera, on the other hand, is the name of the grape variety itself. Though there are differences in character from one producer to another, and from one type of terroir to another, Barbera wines tend to be energized with assertive acidity that perks up bright and brambly fruit notes, making it a delicious accompaniment to a wide range of foods.
Our 2020 Barbera grapes herald from the Columbia Valley and spent 18 months in neutral oak barrels. It’s an incredibly smooth big red that goes well with a wide variety of foods.
Tasting Notes:
Aromas of cherry, cured meat, black pepper and dried herbs. It delivers flavors of plum that are met on the mid-palate by notes of dried herbs that lead to a finish showing hints of black pepper.
Food Pairing Ideas:
Pasta e Fagioli. Toasted Ravioli with marinara dipping sauce. Sausage and olive pizza. Thanksgiving stuffing. Mashed potatoes and gravy.
